Monday
Morning Tour of Monumental Rome.
See the Arts Museum, The Bank of Italy. Visit the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, by St. Angelo Castle to visit St. Peter Basilica and the Square. Afternoon tour of Christian Rome - By Republic Square, visit the Basilica of St. Mary Major, Santa Croce - the Holy Stairs, then to the Basilica of St. John in Lateran. Continue to see the Old Appian Way with the Chapel of Domine Quo Vadis and the Catacombs.
Tuesday
Day at leisure in Rome. Optional Excursion to Florence ($ 119 per person) - Depart Rome, drive on the Autostrada del Sole and the beautiful countryside of Latium, Umbria and Tuscany to Florence. Sightseeing: visit the Bargello, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto's Bell Tower and Baptistry, the Academy with Michelangelo's David. Lunch at a typical restaurant. Drive to Santa Croce, see the Church, free time to visit the Ponte Vecchio and for browsing and shopping. Drive then to Piazzale Michelangelo with its magnificent view. Depart for Rome at about 5 pm, arrive at your hotel at about 9.
Wednesday
Visit to His Holiness the Pope for the Papal Audience and Blessing. Afternoon Tour of Ancient Rome - Drive through Republic Square, stop in Piazza Venezia, visit Capitol Square, the Forum, then on to the Church of St. Peter in Chains with Michelangelo's statue of Moses, visit the Colosseum and then see the Circus Maximus. Continue to the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls.
Thursday
Full-day Excursion to Assisi - Drive north of Rome, to the picturesque Umbria region, rich in vineyards, olive trees and the famous hill-top villages across the valley. Pass the medieval towns of Spoleto, Trevi, Foligno, Spello and the most famous of all, Assisi, the mystical town of St. Francis, still surrounded by the ancient walls. The city, spread on the slopes of Mt. Subasio, with its colorful houses of pink stone, narrow streets, flower-decked balconies and noble palaces, has at its heart the Basilica of St. Francis, rich in masterpieces by Giotto and Cimabue and in a special atmosphere of peace. See the Market Square with the Temple of Minerva and the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli. Lunch is included, you have time to browse and shop. Return to your hotel in Rome for overnight.
Friday
Day at leisure in Rome for independent activities. Optional Excursion to Naples and Pompeii ($99 per person) - Depart Rome, drive along the Autostrada del Sole, across the Roman countryside to Naples. An orientation tour of the city, including Mergellina, Lungomare via Caracciolo, the Royal Palace, the San Carlo Theatre and Angevin fortress. Continue to Pompeii, stop for lunch, then visit the ruins of the Roman city buried by the Vesuvius eruption of 79 AD. Proceed to Sorrento for a panoramic view of the city. Arrival in Rome at approximately 11:00 pm.
Saturday
Transfer to Fiumicino airport. Welcome home !
