Monday
Visit the Lost Rose-Red City of Petra. The Nabateans had built a thriving cluster of settlements across the caravan routes linking Egypt
and the Fertile Crescent, in the area once occupied by the Edomites.
Their capital city, Petra ("the rock"), rediscovered only in the 19th Century amid the desolate hill country of southern Jordan, flourished under the Romans. Set in a canyon with a narrow two mile long entrance called the Siq, the excavated city shows lovely buildings carved out of the reddish rock. See the theater, colonnaded street, the Treasury, the High Place of Sacrifice and the Monastery. Then drive to Amman, lunch in Petra. Dinner and overnight in Amman.
Tuesday
Leave Amman, drive to the Allenby Bridge, cross the border into Israel, then drive to Netanya.
