Tuesday
Arrive Dublin, meet our representatives and transfer to the Hotel TEMPLE BAR. Afternoon panoramic sightseeing tour of Dublin's "Fair City". See the fine Georgian Squares, the Phoenix Park where both the President of Ireland and American Ambassador reside and old Dublin, visiting two of its cathedrals - St. Patrick's and Christ Church. Evening Optional: Enjoy a performance by one of Ireland's famous playwrights at the Abbey Theatre, Ireland's National Theatre. Overnight in Dublin.
Wednesday
Visit Dublin Castle and Trinity College to view the illuminated Gospel Book of Kells before leaving the city and traveling north to Boyne Valley which holds the secrets of over 5,000 years of history. Visit Newgrange, which predates the pyramids of Egypt, and also the early Christian monuments at Melifont Abbey and Monasterboice, noted for its Celtic High Cross. Evening Optional: Optional dinner and Irish cabaret show at either Jury's or the Burlington. Overnight in Dublin.
Thursday
Leave Dublin and travel south to the Wicklow Mountains and Glendalough, site of a 6th century monastic settlement founded by St. Kevin.
Continue via Carlow to Thomastown to visit Jerpoint Abbey, Cistercian ruin dating back to the 12th century. On to Kilkenny, Ireland's foremost medieval city, and Kilkenny Castle, former seat of the Butlers of Ormond. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel KILKENNY.
Friday
Visit Holy Cross Abbey in which is enshrined Relics of the True Cross. Then on to Cashel to see the historic Rock of Cashel. Across the Knockmealdown Mountains to Cappoquin to join the Cistercian Monks in prayer at Mount Mellery Abbey before traveling along the shores of the river Blackwater via Lismore and Fermoy to Ireland's second largest city, Cork. Dinner and overnight in Cork at JURYS Hotel.
Saturday
Acquire the "gift of eloquence" at Blarney before heading west across the Shehy Mountains and into the Kingdom of Kerry. Visit Goughane Barra where St. Finbar, patron saint of Cork, had a hermitage before he moved down the river Lee to found his great monastery at Cork. Travel via Bantry Bay and sub-tropical Glengarriff to Kenmare. From Kenmare enjoy one of the most enthralling short drives in the south of Ireland to Killarney, popularly known as "Heaven's Reflex". Dinner and overnight in Killarney at the Hotel KILLARNEY TOWERS.
Sunday
Leave County Kerry, drive to the Limerick region via the old village of Adare, with its thatched cottages and medieval churches. Through historic Limerick city to Bunratty, visit the 15th century castle and folk park with its replicas of rural and urban houses from many parts of Ireland as they appeared in the late 19th century. Entertainment and Medieval Banquet at Knappogue Castle. Overnight in Ennis at the AUBURN LODGE Hotel.
Monday
Visit the Cliffs of Moher before traveling through the Burren region of Clare and via the villages of Ballyvaug-han and Kinvara on Galway Bay to Galway City. Continue via Oughterard into rugged Connemara, one of the most desolate parts of Ireland dotted with lakes and dominated by a mountain range known as the Twelve Bens. Visit the town of Clifden where Marconi set up his first radio transmitting station in 1910, and Kylemore Abbey, the only Benedictine convent in Ireland. On to Westport, located on Clew Bay. Dinner and overnight in Westport at the Hotel WESTPORT.
Tuesday
Visit Ireland's holy mountain, Croagh Patrick, where Saint Patrick spent the forty days of Lent in 441 A.D. Then on to Ballintubber Abbey and the holy well where St. Patrick baptized his converts. Mass has been celebrated without a break within the walls of the abbey since its foundation in 1216. Spend the afternoon at Ireland's National Marian Shrine in Knock. Participate in the various religious exercises associated with a visit to the Shrine. Return to Westport for dinner and overnight.
Wednesday
Cross the central plains of Ireland traveling via Roscommon and Athlone on the lordly River Shannon. Visit the national monument at Clonmacnois with its high crosses and round towers, and other remains of a 6th century monastery founded by St. Ciaran. Continue to Dublin via Maynooth, the present day ecclesiastical centre of Ireland. Evening Optional: Optional traditional dinner and Irish ballads at the Abbey Tavern in Howth. Overnight in Malahide at the GRAND HOTEL.
Thursday
Transfer to Dublin airport for return flight to the USA. Arrive in the afternoon. Welcome home !
